ATLANTIC DAKAR
Surf, Identity & Community — Dakar, Senegal
Along the Atlantic coast of Dakar, surfing occupies a unique place in a city whose relationship with the ocean runs deep. Fishing, trade, and daily life have long revolved around the water, yet surfing remains the pursuit of a relatively small community.
I encountered these surfers toward the end of my time in Senegal. What interested me wasn't simply the sport, but the people who had built a culture around it—their individuality, camaraderie, and the way they moved between the rhythms of the city and the ocean.
These photographs explore a community shaped by a shared passion for the sea, where surfing becomes an expression of identity, freedom, and belonging.
Rather than documenting athletic performance alone, Atlantic Dakar looks at the people behind the sport and the world they inhabit.
